STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
It is an expectation that students are prepared for safe participation in Physical Education. On the days that your child has P.E., please be sure that they are ready for movement. In order to participate in activity, students must be wearing comfortable clothing and athletic, non-marring sneakers.
Additionally, HCPSS policy restricts jewelry or accessories from being worn during P.E. This rule includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces, scarves, watches, and any other accessory that may interfere with your child’s safety or ability to move freely during class. Stud earrings are allowed, along with detachable medical bracelets or medical necklaces. If you feel that it will be difficult for your child to remove inappropriate articles and keep track of them during the school day, please do send them to school on Physical Education days without jewelry or accessories.
Again, the following items are NOT allowed to be worn in PE:
-Earrings (stud earrings ARE allowed)
-Jewelry of other types
-Fashion Shoes (those with a heel, boots, crocs, clogs, Heelys or sandals)
-Scarves or hats
-Watches
What to do if your child is injured or ill:
If your child is ill or injured and needs to be excused from Physical Education for one to three days, a parent note is required. If your child needs to be excused from class for more than three consecutive days, please send in a doctor’s note stating the extent of the injury/illness and the time period the student is to be excused. If there are only a few restrictions, please have the doctor specify what is/is not allowed in order for us to best meet the needs of your child. A student’s grade is not adversely affected when excused from P.E. classes, and an alternative assignment will be provided to keep excused students interested and on task.
GRADING POLICY
Grades K, 1, & 2
Demonstrate Knowledge and Skills
I = Independently
The student performs age appropriate cognitive, motor and physical education skills following instruction and practice without additional teacher or student assistance.
For example: Upon the teachers request, the student was able to demonstrate the difference between a skip and gallop; when asked the difference between skipping and galloping, the student was able to explain the difference and perform each skill correctly.
W = With Assistance
The student performs age appropriate cognitive, motor and physical education skills some of the time but not consistently following instruction and practice. Additional teacher input is needed to assist the student to perform a skill consistently.
For example: The student was unable to demonstrate the difference between skipping and galloping independently (physically and cognitively); the student needs to be reminded by the teacher.
N = Not Apparent at this time
The student was unable or unwilling to demonstrate the difference between a skip and a gallop upon teacher request, even after additional prompting.
